Voice Server IP Numbers

March 31, 2009 - All of the voice servers were assigned new IP addresses this morning. The corresponding DNS in the holdouts.com domain for each server was changed at the same time. However, it may take 24-48 hours for your ISP to reflect the DNS changes.

A new DNS was setup in the holdouts.net domain for each voice server. If you need immedaite use of the server you can use the corresponding holdouts.net DNS name to connect (i.e. if you have a server on ts1.holdouts.com, you can now use ts1.holdouts.net).

CoD 2 and Mac Voice Clients

Holdouts now has Call of Duty 2 servers available. Please contact us if interested. Also, there is a Mac Ventrilo client available now which is supported by Ventrilo folks (you can download it from Ventrilo home site). There also is a Teamspeak Mac client available called Teamspeex. This is a third party application and not supported by Teamspeak folks (yet). Both clients require that you use a Speex codec for your server configuration. Contact us if you wish to have your server modified to only use Speex.
10 Reasons To Rent Your Server From Holdouts

We have been in business since 2001.

Our prices are low. We may not be the lowest, but we are competitive and support our services.

We own all of our servers and switches. If there are any hardware issues, we have access and spare parts to fix them. We are not colocated at a large NOC renting our hardware like many of our new competitors. They probably can't even tell you the brand of ethernet switch they are hooked too (Holdouts uses Avaya Cajun model ethernet switches).

All of our servers run on the secure and fast operating system SuSE LINUX.

We have our OWN connection to the internet with multiple providers. We have our own OC-3 line with WilTel Communications. You can read about their network here. We also have a 100 Mbit connection to the ATDN network. This is the main network used to carry Road Runner and AOL traffic. The connections are hooked to a Cisco 7507 router that we also own. Our Avaya Cajun ethernet switches are hooked directly to our Cisco router.

Our servers are fast. All of our machines are either dual AMD Athlon machines (built on Tyan Thunder motherboards) or dual Intel Xeon machines. The dual Xeon machines are either Supermicro servers or blades in our IBM blade server. Most have a gig or more of RAM and all have fast SCSI drives (except the IBM blade server which has special hard drives).

We support our services. We monitor all of our servers 24 X 7. If any machine fails, a support person is paged immediately to fix the problem. We have a spare machines that can be used in the event we can't get a machine back up because of hardware failure. Any general questions or issues can be asked via email (or the "Contact Us" tab above) and are answered promptly. You can also call us (sorry not toll free) if you need help as well.

Word of mouth. Ask anybody that has ever used Holdouts if they were happy with their service. We do our best to keep people up and LAG free. We will be more than happy to provide testimonials from our current customers (we are in process of putting together a page with testimonials to link).

We do not overload our game servers. I have read some ridiculous numbers in forums from new game server companies. They think they can run ten (or more) game servers on one box based on CPU graphs. They have no clue about server load and what games require. Because of reason 1 (us being in business since 2001) we know how many servers we can run as well as what games run better on one box. And it isn't ten.

We do not overload our Teamspeak/Ventrilo servers. We have a large number (and growing) of dual CPU boxes devoted to Teamspeak or Ventrilo only. That is all we run on those machines and we keep the server load very LOW. Some of our competitiors are leasing one or two boxes from a NOC and putting either way too much Teamspeak/Ventrilo, or combining with game servers together on one box (LAG city).

Teamspeak Virus

McAfee (as well as some other anti-virus software products) are incorrectly identifying an old trojan in the file named keypress.dll located in the Teamspeak Windows client subdirectory. You can read about it and download a file to fix the problem here.
